Ebony McClellan Medina
Ebony is an ERYT 500-hour (Registered Yoga Teacher), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction facilitator, and creative writer, and is currently pursuing her Masters's degree in Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine. She has been taught and mentored through both 200 and 300-hour teacher training by Scott Page, and Donna Schnoor of Ignite Yoga Studios in Phoenix, Arizona. Called to her craft in 2010 after an auto-immune disease left her disabled she has spent the last decade teaching, studying, and writing about the practice of ancient, natural, and sacred ways to restore the Body, Mind, and Soul.
After years of dedicated personal practice and sharing her knowledge within the chronic illness community, Ebony not only achieved certification in yoga and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) but also embarked on a mission to make these transformative practices accessible to individuals with diverse abilities, particularly those within the chronic illness community. In 2020, Ebony faced the heartbreaking loss of her mother amidst a nationwide lockdown, prompting her to take a temporary hiatus to navigate the complexities of grief.
Upon her return to teaching, Ebony discovered a gap in her classes—no students were openly grappling with grief or trauma. Recognizing an unmet need, she pursued additional certifications to teach specialized grief and trauma informed classes. Motivated by a deep sense of empathy and understanding, she began holding bi-monthly sessions, providing a safe and supportive space for those navigating the challenging realms of grief and trauma.
Ebony observed a striking lack of diversity within health and wellness spaces. To address this disparity, she crafted classes with a deliberate focus on reaching the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) community, fostering inclusivity and representation within the realms of yoga and mindfulness.
In 2022 she founded The Ebony Yogi Foundation 501c3 with a mission to share Yoga and Meditation inclusively.
The foundation's impact continued to ripple outward when a local comfort center, inspired by its mission, reached out for collaboration. They sought the foundation's expertise in offering classes tailored for domestic violence survivors who were transitioning out of their programs. Seizing the opportunity to extend support to this vulnerable group, The Ebony Yogi Foundation embraced a new facet of its mission, now actively including survivors of domestic violence in its commitment to holistic well-being and healing. Through these successive expansions, Ebony and The Ebony Yogi Foundation have not only demonstrated adaptability but also a profound dedication to serving marginalized and underserved communities with compassion, expertise, and inclusivity.
Ebony’s teaching style is a fusion of mindfulness, breath-centered movement, and spiritual exploration. In her classes, you can expect more than just physical postures. She's dedicated to weaving in the wisdom of yoga philosophy and mindfulness techniques, empowering you to carry the benefits of your practice beyond the mat. Ebony creates a safe and inclusive space where students of all levels can connect with their bodies, minds, and spirits creating a harmonious blend of dynamic flows, rejuvenating stretches, and moments of stillness, allowing you to delve into the present moment and cultivate self-love.
